Twitter May Be Opening The Next Chapter In Telemedicine

You are a doctor. You understand how you and your patients can benefit from communicating directly with each other. You agree that Twitter does a good job at improving communications with your patients.

Would speaking to your patients through Twitter take your relationships to the next step?

TwitCam by LiveStream enables you to share your thoughts, opinions and general advice with patients. Using TwitCam can enable you to do this in a convenient video that patients can watch and listen to. Your patients will not need special equipment to hear you explain why they should come in for a flu shot...or your look of concern.

Technology that supports video chats has been in place for some time now. Google and Facebook have their own versions of video to video calling. This video to video context can be a disadvantage for doctors wishing to market their business. It is important to tightly control the flow of information when marketing healthcare. Social media, including Twitter, are not HIPAA compliant and should never be used to discuss any personal health information.

The beauty of TwitCam for both doctors and their patients is its simplicity. TwitCam does not require a significant technological upgrade in skills or equipment. The person broadcasting via TwitCam displays a video that is broadcast through Twitter. Responses can be tweeted either through your Twitter page or a link to the TwitCam session.

Here are TwitCam's directions for using their services:

1.   Connect your webcam
2.   Login with Twitter
3.   Click the broadcast button

That’s it!

TwitCam is free as they raise their revenues from ads. You do not need to sign up for service and no software download is required. TwitCam broadcast's service can handle up to 100,000 viewers. (You should be so lucky!)

You may be crystal clear in educating your patients about general medical topics. Patients may misconstrue information shared or general consumption as personal health advice. Why leave any misunderstandings open to question?

We also recommend that you consider purchasing GetFLV to use in conjunction with Twitcam.com.  GetFLV enables you to download your Twitcam.com sessions for future reference. GetFLV carries a CNET 5 star rating and only costs $59.95 after a fourteen-day trial period. GetFLV can also be used to download other video formats such as YouTube, CBS, ABC and Hulu TV. GetFLV is compatible with Windows 8, 7, Vista and XP (32 and 64 bit versions). It can be operated from many mobile devices.

See the CNET Review of GetFLV for more information and to download their fourteen-day free trial.
