What Makes An Infographic Great?

The team at LADezign has been on a mission to find out what it takes to create the best infographic. Infographics can have a huge impact on your company and site, but in order to have it give your site a good boost in rankings, it has to be good. So what does it take to make a great infographic? Here are our thoughts.

1. Pick a topic that will grab your viewers attention. The infographic doesn't have to be about the services your business offers, it just has to get the people interested that would view your website. For instance, if you run a dog rescue shelter, you could create an infographic about the personality traits of different breeds of dogs. That way you create an interesting piece that any potential viewer would be interested, but you also grab the interest of animal lovers you could have never reached otherwise. When you do pick a topic, remember to find credible sources for your data and credit them in or below the infographic.

2. Make it visually appealing. Every image should be stunning, but the advantage an infographic has is that it guarantees a longer view than most graphics would because of the info listed. This is why great info needs great images to back it up. Get creative with the design and use images to simplify your data. One of our favorite infographics is about London and the Olympics here. There is so much info here that ordinarily viewers would balk at the idea of reading it all, but because the information is so wonderfully represented with creative charts and icons, viewers soak up all the information happily.

3. Send it everywhere. Once you have a great infographic made up of an interesting topic, data, and visual treats, embed your link and send it everywhere. Both personal and business blogs love a good infographic, so each time it get's picked up, it will be another new link to your site. If you've hit a popular subject, it could pick up more speed than you're ready for. Don't say we didn't warn you!
