Make Headlines Smart, Sleek, and Strong Headlines with SlabText

How do you create headlines that catch users' eyes but don't blind them to essential information by making everything big and bold? After all, depending on how much information needs to be included it is easy to make a headline that comes out looking crammed and "busy," and I've helped more than a few of my Los Angeles website design clients with balancing and adjusting the size and amount of text on their home and inner pages to make an impression and still successfully convey messaging.

Since no two websites or brands are exactly alike, even web designers with the keenest eyes can use the assistance of a JQuery plugin like SlabText for building headlines. It is very helpful to give you a practical sense of how a given amount of text will look in the allotted horizontal space. The plugin divides width by the CSS font size and then splits and displays the headline text in discreet rows based on the ideal character count, automating a process that often requires time-consuming guesswork and trial-and-error.

The nice thing about SlabText is it still leaves you in ultimate control if there are certain lines of text that need to be presented in a specified size. Simply preset the size of the desired text and the plugin will not mess with it. Span elements also lets you customize font groups, line height, and other elements of rows inside the CSS.

SlabText can be downloaded easily from GitHub.
