Build a Savvy SEO Campaign with Social Mention

How do you structure your online marketing campaign to effectively and specifically target your prospective clients? Gauging the frequency with which your first and second tier keywords are used is only one step. The next step in successful, organic search engine optimization is determining how and where users are discussing and seeking out your product or service. This element of keyword research can prove to be very time-consuming, but fortunately apps like Social Mention have come along to make the process a little speedier.

When doing the initial groundwork of an SEO campaign for one of my Los Angeles website design clients, one of the most important ideas to elucidate is who a given client works with and benefits, because that will determine the blogs, social media, and backlinks that will be most fruitful in terms of link love. With some product and service markets, it's clearer than with others, but you can never have too much clarity on your targeted audience. Trends change, and Social Mention is a great free method of keeping up with them.

Social Mention works a lot like Google Adwords. Simply go to the main site and enter the terms you wish to track on Facebook, Twitter, YouTube, Google, over 100 other social media sites. Within minutes, you can view results from the last 24 hours categorized by "strength," "sentiment," "passion," and "reach," and also hashtags and reTweets. You can customize your results and even set up email alerts for the uses of certain terms. Spending a few minutes reading the context around a term's user mentions could give inspire some productive and original ideas to push lasting traffic to your website.
