Step Up Your Keyword Research with Google Insights

What are the best keywords you can be targeting in your SEO campaign? This is common question among my newer Los Angeles website design and as they quickly learn, that's like asking what is the best chess move? That is, the answer is relative to the circumstances and a number of other factors like the service or product you offer, your geographical location and how far your business will extend beyond it, and who your audience is.

Even after determining these answers, there is still the matter of how various search terms stack up against in each in terms of popularity, which can and will change. Consequently, there is no such thing as doing too much homework for keyword research, which can get complicated and time-consuming, so I am all for tools like Google Analytics and Google Insights to break down exactly how interested users are in particular terms.

Google Insights is helpful for advertising professionals, self-promoting entrepreneurs, global corporations, researchers, and really anyone looking for an in-depth view on the clear-cut illustration of the relevance of search terms and how they have varied over time. Let's say I wanted to see if a new page on my site should focus on "search engine optimization," "web design," or "e-commerce." I'd enter those three terms in and be presented with a color-coded graph showing how they have compared in popularity from several years ago up to the present.

You can also use this program to examine the potential international or seasonal market for your brand. Enter both the English and foreign language terms to see which regions of particular countries look them up the most. Perhaps you rent cottages in Cape Cod in the summer but want to see when most people begin looking to book. Google Insights delivers the data to help you develop the most lucrative messaging.
