Product Videos for Ecommerce Sites Do Matter for SEO

Are you currently using videos on your website?
If not, you would be surprised to learn how valuable videos can be for e-commerce-driven websites.
In this first posting for Traffic Tuesday, we encourage you to wake up and smell the video coffee percolating on your competition's websites.

If you are among the 68% of  online retailers that have still not made use mass-scaled, e-commerce video solutions, it’s time to take a look at the benefits you’re denying your enterprise.

Product videos convey key information about your products and services in a way that’s more engaging and memorable for users than making them read lengthy bullet lists or paragraphs. They are quick and easy to produce and also, though you might not have known it, video content can also help get you indexed by major search engines.

We've known for over a year about how to use a site like Animoto.com to create nice video presentations out of a mix of text and photos. And now with software like Jing, it's really easy to create a screen capture oriented video in just a few minutes.

When your site incorporates video content, it can influence the way it gets filtered in search results on Bing and Google, placing it closer to the top.

This benefit also includes retailers who post e-commerce videos on Youtube, specifically the 48% of these companies that had posted 100 videos or more within the first quarter of 2011.

Take a look at how Doris Leslie Blau, an online distributor of antique carpets and rugs as well as new and custom rugs presents concise product details on one of their antique Turkish Oushak rugs:
