Use Google URL Removal Tool for Problematic Pages

How Safe is Your Website from Bad or Outdated Content?

Both your website and business can sustain irreparable damage from hacking or content that was not meant to be published.

The search engine world of Google, Bing, and Yahoo moves very quickly.

If there is incorrect, outdated, or mistakenly published content from your site that you want to keep from being indexed, you need to move quickly before both current and prospective customers spread negative word of mouth about your brand.

In cases like these, the Google URL Removal Tool can be especially helpful.

Another reason to remove this content is because your search engine optimization rankings will suffer if you have errors. Obviously from a usability standpoint, you also want a clean site because if you've invested all this time and money in coming up with a nice website design, your site should deliver the right content people expect to see.

It should be noted that is this tool is specifically meant to deal with content that must be urgently removed; in a later Web Design Wednesday post we will discuss how to remove pages you have been planning to take down and alert the search engine crawlers appropriately.

This removal tool is best suited for when you notice that Google is still displaying results for a page you know you have taken down, or if the security of you or your users has been compromised due to hacking.

To request to have specific pages removed, simply enter them one by one into the case sensitive fields. You can check back in to view how long your request remains pending or if it gets denied.

Thanks for reading. Jason.
