Maybe All You and Your Router Need is a Cold Beer

Are you looking for a quick, cheap way to increase the strength of your WiFi signal? No one likes dealing with unreliable wireless whether they’re shopping, researching, transmitting messages, or corresponding in regards to a time-sensitive professional matter. I understand that more than anyone with the number of Los Angeles website design projects I keep up with simultaneously. While weak signal strength sometimes seems like something you just have to deal with, you might be surprised to learn that boosting those bars so can be as easy as cracking a nice, cold beer.

Recently, the resourceful folks at The Chive shared how to make a parabolic reflector that extends your WiFi out of a tool that most of us have sitting a few feet away: a plain aluminum beverage can. The rest of this basic and helpful little science project just requires some scissors, a utility knife, and adhesive putty.

First, wash and dry the can thoroughly (and please wait until those brews have worn off to pick up the sharp instruments).

Remove the pull tab.

Using the utility knife, evenly saw off the bottom of the can.

Now saw off all but a little bit of metal from the top of the can so that the base remains attached near the hole.

Using the scissors, cut opposite to the piece of the can still attaching the base so that the ends can splay apart.

Now stick a couple pieces of putty to the base so that you can slip it down over the antenna of your WiFi router.
At this point, test the strength of your signal on your enabled Smartphone, laptop, Netbook, or P.C. You should see an increase of around two to four bars. I'd say that's worth drinking to.

Thanks for reading. Jason.
