Enjoy Faster, Smoother File Compression with 7-Zip

How do you go about sending large documents and files?

If you have ever been sent a sizable file that was not properly compressed, you know what an inconvenience it can be. After irritatingly lengthy download time, you also discover that an enormous amount of your hard disk space has been eaten up in order to receive and store the attachment. Chances are you were a little irked at the colleague or acquaintance who sent you that file without taking the time to adjust it with an effective archiving and compression tool like 7-Zip.

Having dealt with the aforementioned hindrance yourself, you certainly would not want to carelessly inflict it on a friend, business associate, or worse a prospective client. When sending along proposals, contracts, and other documents of considerable length, my employees and I always take care to compress them so that our Los Angeles website design clients and prospects can view them quickly, easily, and without any portion missing or corrupted. While WinZip is established as the go-to tool for compressing files for sending, 7-Zip gives you more capability at no cost.

Just like WinZip, 7-Zip can process ZIP, TAR, GZ, and 7z formats, but unlike WinZip it can generate TAR and GZ archives. The archives are 40% smaller than those created by WinZip, and Context Menu options allow you to “test” archives for accessibility and function. Praised by CNET users for its “self explanatory” usability, 7-Zip also offers advanced options for making self-extracting files, command line module, compression level adjustment, and protecting your password. It is compatible with UNIX, MAC, and Windows (98, ME, 2000, 2003, Vista, and 7).
