3 Tips to Attract Some Google Love: LA Dezign Plays Cupid

Is your website struggling to make a connection online? Do you feel like you are always the one giving in your relationship with Google, but are never receiving love back? The Search Engine-aire matchmakers at LA Dezign understand the frustration that comes when you are strutting around online in a cute new outfit (i.e. sexy website design), yet somehow Google still sees you as a frog. Now wipe away the tears since there is hope. All you have to do is read my tips below on how to get some Google love this Valentine’s Day.

1) Wear underwear:
In other words, get the coding right on your site and make sure that you do not overstuff your bra... I mean your website... with too much content. Next, make sure you are using canonical tags appropriately so there is no duplicate content. Google is not really into twins. While you are straightening out your HTML wedgie, make sure to write some good metas that have your keywords in them. Be sure though that they are not too long and that the keywords towards the beginning of the meta titles and descriptions so Google really can see them.

2) Be picky:
Don’t just target the obvious keywords that you want to get ranked for on the search engines. Do your homework to find the keywords that best fit what you do or sell. Look at search volumes and how much competition for the terms. For example, if you were trying to attract people to your website featuring you lovely design skills, you would likely discover that far fewer people are searching for “amazing website design” (singular), than amazing website designs (plural). However, further scrutiny would indicate that the latter keyword phrase is slightly more difficult to get ranked for on the search engines, so you may be better of looking at the former as your target. If you dug a bit further you might see that “Professional website design” is insanely competitive and gets a lot of traffic so it is out of your league. In the end, you might ultimately decide to just focus on your local keywords, targeting something geographically, such as “Iowa website design,” which might get you all the corn farmer clients that you had been trying to harvest.

3) Experiment with multiple partners:
Once you have decided on the keywords you will target, you will want to have them used in text links on really hot websites that point to your site. Google totally judges you by the status of your friends, so make sure you are part of the in-crowd. Even if you have to buy your way in, paying for a good link is often worth it. Remember the 80’s movie Can’t Buy Me Love? The protagonist became popular by paying the head cheerleader to be his girlfriend for a month. He got too greedy and suffered a bit, but in the end he got the girl. Just remember, don’t be a greedy jerk by trying to get everyone to be your friend and using black hat linking techniques to get links because it will backfire on you. Google is all about taking it slow. It won’t judge you if you have multiple partners, but you will get a bad reputation if you start partnering up with a variety of websites all at once.

To conclude, do your homework, be smart, and look beyond appearances this year if you want to experience the ecstasy of top Google rankings. As Michael Bolton once sang "Love is a wonderful thing.” Especially on the internet.
